Press Release – Scam Targeting Recipients of Food and Cash Assistance

Boulder County, Colorado sent this bulletin at 07/14/2025 03:00 PM MDT

Boulder County, Colo. -It was reported that there has been a significant increase in reports of scammers calling Colorado residents who receive food and cash assistance. This has recently been seen in Arapahoe County, where  recipients of public benefits were contacted by an individual  impersonating an Arapahoe County Human Services employee from an  international phone number. When residents responded to the caller, the fake Human Service employee requested the client’s EBT (Electronic  Benefits Transfer) card number and PIN.

If there is a question about whether a text message, email, letter, or phone call is a scam, you can contact the Community Protection Division at 303-441-3700 or email dacpd@bouldercounty.gov.

To verify that an EBT-related call originated from Boulder County Human Services, don't hesitate to get in touch with 303-441-1000.

2025 - Social Security Website on Scams

What Are Social Security-Related Scams?

Criminals continue to impersonate SSA and other government agencies in an attempt to obtain personal information or money.

Scammers might call, email, text, write, or message you on social media claiming to be from the Social Security Administration or the Office of the Inspector General. They might use the name of a  person who really works there and might send a picture or attachment as  “proof.”
